But God Had Other Plans

What did you come out here to see? Did you come here to have your opinions affirmed? Did you come because you think my wealth or position qualifies me, or you just think I’m handsome, or …. Did you come here to get a Word from God?

Most people read for comfort. They study to confirm their beliefs or to find a family that thinks and acts in accordance to their world view, but you are not that person. You are on a quest for the higher purpose. You are not looking for a family wallowing in self – congratulatory rhetoric. You are a people, called out by God to serve others back to their higher purpose and therefore you are a group willing to pay the price – any price to achieve a position in the training cauldron of the refining fire.

When my mother named me, she chose the name “Daniel”. She liked the name. She was 19 and newly married and for reasons we can’t go into now, she wanted a baby in the worst way and she wanted one right away. She tells the story this way. Night after night she would pray the rosary and night after night she would poke holes in the condoms she had agreed to use. And then she prayed. “Jesus, if you give me a baby, I will dedicate him to you. He will serve you. I promise.” She was an Irish Catholic girl and she was thinking that I would be a priest, but God had other plans.

The journey that I have been on has been and continues to be one where I am trained to hear His voice and to be true to my mother’s prayers. The name Dan in Hebrew means Judge. Daniel means God is my judge. For me, consciously and subconsciously this means that I answer to a higher power, and I am constrained by His love for you and me, but I am not constrained by man’s opinion of me.

Think little of me or think a lot of me — it matters not. I am not a reed shaking in the wind, nor am I defined by the clothes that I wear or the trophies that I have won. I am on a mission and though I am 60, I have just begun.

I say this as an encouragement to each of you. Refuse to be defined and delegated to disappointment. Refuse to be disqualified or shelved. Your best days are ahead of you and if you want help, there are those who can help you to find traction.

Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
All things are possible to him who believes.
Cast not away your confidence for in that confidence there is great recompense of reward.
There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk after the spirit and not after the flesh.

I am shouting now and can’t wait to hear from you.
